Monday 15^th December 2008 - Many enthusiasts were deeply saddened by the retirement of the legendary Corkscrew, but Alton Towers gave those enthusiasts one last chance to claim a piece of the historic ride, by launching an auction to buy one of the front Corkscrew ride cars. As previously reported here, the charity auction in aid of Merlin's Magic Wand charity, was launched on eBay at 10am on Tuesday 2nd of December. The auction was then extended to end at 2.30pm on Sunday 14th December.

Twelve days after the auction started, it ended with the final winning bid standing at an amazing £7,300.
